A bamboo thicket by water is usually the home for Doht – ruthless and dangerous water spirits spiteful towards humans in Assamese lore (India).
Incredibly tall and with long claws for fingers, these creatures are impossible to control unless one steals the pouch a Doht always keeps on their person.
