Rushbearing was a British custom commonly found in northern regions of England, such as the Lake District — characterised by the renewal of reeds and sweet smelling herbs that would insulate the earthen floors of churches.
Once widespread, it is now a symbolical festivity done in just a few places on June 29th (with regional variations), for instance Grasmere in Cumbria.
